Brooklyn native Shamorie Ponds, a 6-0 point guard at Thomas Jefferson HS, announced on Tuesday afternoon his intentions to stay local and attend St. John’s next fall. He was also seriously considering Creighton, Minnesota and Providence. After top-12 national recruit Rawle Alkins transferred to a prep school in North Carolina, Ponds is widely recognized as the top recruit in NYC. He becomes Chris Mullin’s first recruit in the Class of 2016. The Red Storm are also actively pursuing Alkins. We’ll have more info on the commitment later today.
